Energy Transfer in Pelton Turbines

Description: _x000D_ Turbines are used for converting hydraulic energy into electrical energy. There are two main types of turbines: impulse and reaction turbines. The turbine type signifies the manner in which water causes the turbine blades to rotate. The most predominant type of impulse turbine is a Pelton turbine. Pelton turbine operates with its runner in air. Water jet emerging from a nozzle rotates the runner buckets and generates torque. Pelton turbine is mostly used in applications where the elevation difference is high. In this class, velocity triangles at the inlet and the exit are formed to calculate the power extracted. In addition, it is also shown that the bucket velocity U should be equal to the half of the water jet velocity at the inlet for the maximum power extraction._x000D_
